The last few weeks have been mostly awesome, but also frustrating at some points for me. I picked up my new TR250 from Transition, which was one of the highlights for sure. I’ve got the chance to ride it a bit at my house and so far I’m really impressed and can’t wait to rip up some races this season aboard it. A shipment of Deity parts from Eric and Sadie to completely deck it out is on the way, so look out for a mini bike-check once I get it all mounted, it’s going to be an amazing rig!
This past weekend I headed up to Kelowna with Bryce Piwek for Harrison Mendel’s belated Birthday Jam at his house, and true to what is becoming a recurring theme of Kelowna trips, it was one of the single best days of riding I’ve had in a long time. We got up Saturday morning after staying the night at the “home” of Dustin Greenall, Matt Gretzinger, Tyler Clifford and others, and after stopping at A&W for some breakfast, headed up to Dreamland for a couple quick warm-up laps on the infamous stepup.
We then missioned over to Harry’s to begin riding at the Jam. Harry’s house is one of my favourite places to ride, which I’m quite positive is a view I share with many other riders who’ve left the ground on his awesome set.
The atmosphere at Harry’s, if it had to be described in one word... would most likely be “chill”. There’s no hate between riders, plenty of encouragement, everyone’s out to have a good time, and to top it off, there’s an amazing couple of miniature slopestyle lines to shred! Harry has an excellent way about a shovel, has put a ton of work into his place and it shows, because not many lines flow like his do. (He's also a really nice kid)
Unfortunately, sometimes even the most amazing days have a bummer ending, and this time it was me who was to blame. At the beginning of a sunset shoot with Bryce and Matt Butterworth, I ditched out of an over-rotated dump three, a trick i usually have dialed, landing awkwardly on my right leg and crushing my ankle. What we found out the next day after an extremely painful night, was that I had severely sprained my ankle and now need rehab. The doc I saw at Kelowna General Hopsital explained that he was amazed I hadn’t broken anything, but unless I wanted this to keep happening I’d have to go through Physiotherapy.
But injuries are a part of the game and the price we pay in this sport, and I’ve been extremely lucky so far. The best thing i can do is stay positive and focused on rehab and getting back in the game. Hopefully I’ll be back at it soon and can still have a killer 2011 season!
And an edit by Nic Genovese which really captures the chilled out and fun essence of the day. Cake Check at the beginning by yours truly J
Thanks a ton to Transition and Deity who have and continue to support me, here’s to a great and hopefully injury free rest of the season!
Cheers,
Dustin
