I just returned from Guatemala, where I raced in the Pan American (or Intercontinental) Championships. It was a really neat trip. I was lucky enough to meet some new up and coming shredders as well as some old friends.
Over all the trip was great. I was not overly excited about the results I posted, but I'm thankful that after my crash in the downhill finals, I left uninjured. The 4X coarse was UNREAL. It was one of the best I have ever seen, but clearly built for a hardtail. Very smooth, and BMX track/Dirt Jump inspired. It was super challenging on a DH bike, but I only brought one bike and had to live with being over equipped. I did qualify first, but finished 2nd in Masters 4X. I was simply being pulled out of the gate. I had unfortunately saved all my crashes for the weekend for my race run, and finished 5th in Masters DH. I guess these are the kind of things that keep us motivated, right?
On a positive note, I recently accepted a new sponsorship from GT Bicycles. I got the new rig built the day before I left, so this was the first time I rode the new GT Fury, and the bike is amazing!! It's SO sick, very light, and the quietest DH bike I have ever heard (or not heard). All I can say about it is WOW!
